Rediscovering the Joy of Photography: A Journey of Mindful Photography

Amidst the fast-paced world of professional photography, I had almost forgotten the pure essence of what it means to "be" in the moment, behind the lens. For years, I had been capturing images as per clients' requests, following their vision, preferences and desires. The initial joy that drew me to photography seemed to have gradually faded away.

However, a recent experience has been a turning point for me, as I embarked on a mindful photography course. It reminded me of the fundamental difference between "doing" and "being."

I had been operating for so long in the realm of "doing" photography, mainly to sustain my livelihood as a photographer for paying clients. In the process, I inadvertently left behind the art of "being" in the moment or perhaps molded it to fit the commercial demands of the industry.

As I delved into the first lesson of the course, I felt an immediate shift in perspective. I reconnected with a sense of joy, simplicity, freedom from pressure and anxiety, authenticity, and pure delight that had been missing from my professional photography endeavors. These qualities were conspicuously absent in the world of client-driven photography.

The beauty of mindful photography is that it liberates me from the constraints of technique and the need to conform to external standards of "beauty" and "acceptability." It reminds me that it's not about creating something for others, but about expressing myself authentically through the art of photography.

With this newfound understanding, my intention is clear: I want to dwell more in the space of "being" when I take photographs, and actually in every area of my life. I aim to infuse my work with the simplicity, joy, and naturalness that have been rekindled through this journey.

I've also started a blog where I plan to share my experiences and insights as I progress through the course. Through a combination of words and images, I hope to document this transformation, as I strive to be more in tune with the essence of photography, unburdened by the need to solely make a living from it.

In the end, I've realized that the true essence of photography lies not just in "doing" it but in "being" in the moment, capturing the world as I see it, and finding profound joy and authenticity in the process. This is my journey of rediscovering the art of photography, and I can't wait to share it with you.
